"Right Here With Me" hits the OFM Top 20 charts and is already at #6!

Véronique recently received the following letter from OFM:

Hi Véronique,

Towards the end of last year a CD was submitted to OFM for possible playlisting. We subsequently added the track "Right Here With Me" and we've received a very good response from our listenership in the Free State, Northern Cape and North West provinces. As a result the song has entered the OFM Top 20 and I'll leave you to discover where it is on the chart this week...

I've attached the chart for your information. I cannot remember who sent me the album as I know you've released it independently. But I thought I should let you know how well it has done here.

The popularity of the track has prompted queries from our listeners as to where they can buy the album. Please let me know who is distributing the album or where they could get hold of a copy. In the meantime I will be directing them to your website for more information.

Kind Regards,

James Kilbourn

Véronique's stunning new CD "As I Am" was launched at Café Vacca Matta yesterday evening.

To listen to short clips from the new album, go to the Media page.

30 - 08 - 2006

Véronique Lalouette's debut solo album "As I Am" will be released on 10 October on her own new label, GWYG Records.
Véronique, the daughter of famed South African bassist Denny Lalouette, has been singing professionally for most of her life, and rose to fame in the 2005 Idols competition. "I promised myself that if I hadn't started making my own album by the end of 2004, I would enter the next Idols competition and use it as a springboard," she says.

Instead of signing up with a record company, Véronique decided to do her first album independently. "I had a very definite idea of where I wanted to go, I wanted the freedom to do it the way I wanted to, and I wanted to have the opportunity to use my own songs, and the songs I had co-written with my Dad. I also wanted to be able to take full responsibility for how it turned out - good or bad. I discussed it with my family and we decided to create our own label."

Véronique co-produced the album with her father and with producer Robin Walsh. "It was so great to work with Robin," she says. "He treated it like a labour of love, not just another day at the office." Véronique and dad Denny were fortunate to choose from the crème de la crème of local musicians, who were eager to work with the girl they watched grow up."This project has been the most incredible journey! I have found my own voice; my own sound… something which has been very important to me from the beginning."

"On drums we used Vinnie Henrico, Rob Watson and Neil Ettridge. Jean Oosthuizen - the legendary "Floors" - did most of the electric guitar, with Mauritz Lotz on acoustic, and of course Denny Lalouette on bass! Jaconel Vey and Wessel van Rensburg were on keyboard duty. We wanted to keep the sound as 'live' as possible - we even had a full string quartet for about five of the tracks. I was always mindful of wanting to be able to perform these songs live and have them sound as close to possible as on the CD."

1. The album opens with "It's About You", a quiet, gentle, love song. "I especially love this track because of the gorgeous violin solo," Véronique smiles.

2. "Never Far Away" is a sexy R'nB-inspired track that V co-wrote with her dad years ago.

3. The romantic ballad "Right Here With Me" was written by Jay, a young Namibian artist who is also releasing his own debut album later this year. "I hope we can collaborate even more on the next album," Says V. "He's insanely talented!"

4. Track 4, "Free", is a catchy, upbeat singalong-song with a touch of a reggae influence. "I hope everyone will be humming this non-stop in a couple of months!" says V.

5. The fifth track, "Love Me Or You Love Me Not" features a cool Denny Lalouette bass line. "The whole song is about getting to a point in a relationship where you tell the guy, 'Look, you either love me or you don't'", V explains.

6. V roped in Idols runner-up, Gift Gwe, for "I Must Still Love You", an up tempo R'nB duet written by R.J. Benjamin and Danny K. "I've always admired Gift from the very first time I heard him sing. I knew I wanted to have him on my album long before production started."

7. Track 7, "Closure" is a powerful ballad written by V at the end of a previous relationship. "But we're good friends now!" she jokes.

8. "I love rap and hip-hop, and I was lucky enough to lay down a rap line when American rapper CEE-ROCK "THE FURY" was in the country recently," V says about Track 8, "Man down!".

9. "Goodbye" (written by US songwriter and vocalist, Wendy Roy) is a complete change of mood, a powerful song about saying goodbye.

10. Staying with the mood, "Spring Again" is another ballad written by Véronique, about finding the courage to move out of an abusive relationship. "It's about acknowledging the position you're in, and deciding to do something about it"

11. The funky-pop "This Is What I Like" was written by Darryn, who produced Holly Valance's "Kiss Kiss".

12. The twelfth track, "Something's Only Something" is the second song on the album written by Jay. "I fell in love with this song the first time I heard it. It was originally meant for an Australian artist, but I begged him to let me put it on the album!"

13. Véronique's boyfriend, Ian Buchan, wrote the lyrics for Track 13, "Tell Me What Is Real". "I like songs that make me think, so when I read the lyrics he'd written, I knew it was a message I'd love to have for the album"

14. The album closes with a familiar song, "Secret Places", the massively popular song used in a well-known Purity TV commercial (Véronique sings on the commercial) featuring a boy who dreams about growing up to become an astronaut.

Update - LIVE GIGS!
29 - 03 - 2006

Friday 31 March from 11:00 - 17:00 at The Pavillion

Véronique will be the MC at the "KFC Sprinkle Pops Activation" promotion.  Basically, kids who have bought a cannister of KFC Sprinkle Pops, will get a chance to ride a rodeo chicken to
"shake the taste".  The person with the most creative way of shaking it up will win a prize and might go into the finals to win the grand-prize at the end of the day.  V will be hosting it and also singing a few songs.

This promotion will be repeated as follows:

Friday 7 April from 11:00 - 17:00 at Menlyn

Saturday 8 April from 11:00 - 17:00 at Sandton City

The interview that V did for Dtv will be screened this Saturday (1 April) on SABC3 at 12:30, with a possible repeat on Sunday at 09:30.

New website layout 04 - 02 - 2006
New website layout launched.
Tanz Café 27 - 01 - 2006
Véronique performed live at Tanz Café in Bryanston using backtrax. The foul weather was to blame for the small, albeit extremely appreciative, audience. V once again demonstrated her versatility and, at the end of her gig, it felt as if we had been entertained by a dozen different artists!
Café Vacca Matta 25 - 01 - 2006
Véronique performed live at Café Vacca Matta in Montecasino, accompanied by Jaconel Vey on keyboards, Denis Lalouette on bass and Neil Ettridge on drums. As usual, she wooed the crowd with her amazing voice and stage presence!
